Steve Ryan, the architect behind the Morningside University NAIA Juggernaut football powerhouse, pulls back the curtain to show you his approach to not only building a championship program, but also doing so in a manner that creates great football players who go on to becoming even greater people long after their playing days are behind them.

Ryan digs deep to provide real, tangible insight on the most-important factors in building up a football program.

Throughout this video, you will receive clear, real-world lessons on the importance of ‘coaching up’ both your players and your assistant coaches, as well as how to do the same for all team support-staffers working within your program, which provides a clear example of the importance of a shared vision for everyone involved with the football program. Consider this video a must-watch for any football coach – whether you are a first-time head coach, a veteran coach who’s taking over a new program at a new school, a coach who is facing the challenge of a rebuilding situation or a coach who simply wants to reinvigorate themselves and energize their approach to coaching within their current program.

Keys To Success & Building The Perfect Practice

Coach Ryan breaks down the critical essentials of building a football program with a rock-solid foundation and features a team that is a legitimate championship contender year-in and year-out.

Ryan breaks down his team’s philosophy for success, identifying three key personality traits that he tries to instill into his players at all times, even crediting his national championship success to these traits, which include Vision, Cohesion and Will To Win.

“Don’t expect players to rise up on game day, but rather, assume that they will fall back on preparation when the pressure is on.” This statement is at the core of Ryan’s approach to building a productive, positive practice. As such, viewers are sure to gain a new perspective of why practices are so important. According to Coach Ryan, there is not a more important team function than a scheduled team practice. He goes further, saying that every day that you have the good fortune of participating in a scheduled team practice, you have a situation where all of your players gather together collectively, in an effort to work on shared goals and improve as both individuals and as a team. Ryan adds that practice is the most important opportunity you have with your team – and they should be treated as such.

Ryan discusses the importance of a processed-oriented practice and outlines four key elements that every practice should contain, 1) Daily values, 2) Drive to increase effort (which include an emphasis on speed and commitment), 3) Focused drills that serve the best interest of your team (not just your favorite drill) and 4) Building in ‘creative redundancy’ in your practices.

Coach Ryan also covers his methods for building competition into practices – so that your practices contain that competitive, gameday-like feel to them. Ryan explains that some days it comes down to a balance of execution and competition, illustrating his point by showcase several go-to practice drills, including the Juno Drill (which creates more reps and improves execution), the King-of-the-Hill Drill (which builds and fosters a competitive spirit) and the Big Mo Drill (which applies game-like pressure during practice situations).

Building a Great Coaching Staff

Every successful head coach has a staff of outstanding assistants backing him who believe in the program. Coach Ryan provides valuable information that explains the job of each coach on staff and how these should serve as the standards to which all coaches must be held accountable. Coaching today is vastly different than it was 20 years ago. Ryan addresses this hard truth and explains that today’s most successful coaches are coaches who remain adaptive and keep up with a more modern-style of coaching and adapt to relate to players in a way that prepares them to compete against the best teams in the nation. Ryan offers his ‘daily standards for assistant coaches,’  which include being a ‘precision-coach’ who acts first-class in every aspect of coaching duties, as well as the importance of remaining organized.

Coach Ryan concludes this highly valuable coaching video by covering his approach to the off-season – explaining that, many times, the daily routine of the off-season is just as important to your football program as what happens on the field on game days. You then get an inside look at Ryan’s approach to the off-season and learn about the importance of building toughness, remaining relentless, building team-cohesion and finding new ways to give everyone involved a sense of overall responsibility to the football program.

This video is your first step toward building a winning football program and a team that competes at a high level, year-in and year-out!

Rating: 5 Stars

“This video contains some of the best information I have ever seen in a coaching video. It is far better than the majority of coaching clinics that I have attended. Effective immediately, I’ll be implementing a slew of Coach Ryan’s ideas from this video into my own program.”
